New Updates to Capacity Planning for SQL and SharePoint 2013

Microsoft have issues a new TechNet article entitled, “Storage and SQL Server capacity planning and configuration (SharePoint Server 2013)”  This is a must read for anyone involved in SharePoint or the SQL hosting side of the solution.  This article is in addition to the Capacity management and sizing for SharePoint Server 2013.  If you are responsible for the SQL hosting of the solution, the review and guidance on IO and IOPS is worth the read.

The article reviews the recommended practices around the design and configuration process for SharePoint 2013 storage and database tier.  Topics include;

  • Gather storage and SQL Server space and I/O requirements
  • Choose SQL Server version and edition
  • Design storage architecture based on capacity and I/O requirements
